Company History

For decades, Sause Bros. has been one of the most respected names in U.S. flag marine cargo transportation. Beginning in the 1930’s with one small wooden tug, we have grown to a fleet of over 60 modern, powerful tugs and barges.

Throughout the company’s history we have maintained our dedication to continuous improvement: providing our customers with vessels configured to meet their needs, building and training a professional and highly-skilled workforce, developing innovative and cost-effective solutions to cargo handling challenges, and exceeding regulatory and industry standards for safety, training, and environmental protection. Whether it’s lumber, plywood, paper, petroleum products, chemicals, bulk commodities, containers, or oversized, overweight, or specialty cargoes, we have the people, the equipment, and the expertise to meet the customer’s needs.

For over 50 years we have transported a variety of Pacific Northwest forest products into Southern California to meet the growing demands of the region. By providing personalized customer service, we have maintained the flexibility and responsiveness that Southern California customers have come to expect.

The Hawaiian Islands. For over 30 years we have been serving the people of the Aloha state; no other tug and barge company has served this market as long, or as effectively. Island customers rely on our fleet of tugs, open deck barges, and covered house barges to provide consistent and dependable service. Regularly scheduled departures from the West Coast mean regular arrivals into the Hawaiian Islands, allowing our customers to rely on a steady supply of cargo.

Our growing fleet of single and double-hull liquid cargo barges is the largest and most modern on the Pacific Coast, enabling us to be the leading carrier of oil and chemical products in the region. State of the art technology such as vapor recovery and stripping systems, high-level indicators, auto-gauging systems, and high volume cargo transfer equipment underscores our commitment to the safe and efficient handling of a wide range of oil and chemical cargoes.

Sause Bros.—growing, improving, innovating A unique combination of people and equipment, dedicated to building on our strong tradition of customer service. Dedicated to bringing you superior marine transportation services.
